Save the Date: Fitness festival, music, dance and more await

Get a start on your fitness goals for 2016 during the Health and Fitness Festival today in downtown Ridgefield. The day kicks off with a 5K walk and run from Davis Park, followed by fitness and wellness professionals, healthy eating and cooking demonstrations and a farmers market at the Ridgefield Community Center, 210 N. The Winds and Strings Celtic Band and Praise Band Unplugged will perform two concerts to benefit the Winter Hospitality Overflow shelters. The Winds and Strings will perform their rendition of Celtic tunes using a variety of traditional instruments. They will be joined by Unplugged Praise Band, featuring contemporary Christian music. The concerts take place at 3 p.m. Jan. 9 at St. Andrew’s Church, 5607 N.E. Gher Road, and 3 p.m. Jan. 10 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1309 Franklin St., Vancouver. Vintage Books will host Sunday Sessions, a writers get-together with a presentation by Carolyn J. Rose at 3 p.m. Jan. 10. Rose will discuss the importance of opinions and attitudes in creating characters, along with some take-home writing prompts. The annual Clark County Antique and Collectible Show returns with more than 400 vendor booths filled with estate jewelry, vintage home goods, period furniture, pop culture memorabilia and a myriad of old treasures. Students of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics will share their creative ideas and perform a variety of dance styles during the Winter Dance Performance at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 and 22 at the Royal Durst Theater, 3101 Main St., Vancouver. An auction will be held at the Friday performance as a fundraising event for students attending the National High School Dance Festival in Pittsburgh. VSO Chamber Series returns with a popular show, combining live chamber music with classic silent comedies. Musicians from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will accompany three silent films, “Never Weaken” (1921) featuring Harold Lloyd, “The Goat” (1921) featuring Buster Keaton, and “Mighty Like a Moose” (1926) featuring Charley Chase. Fadin’ By 9 and Misty Mamas will offer two nights of music at Magenta Theater’s new venue space at 1108 Main St., Vancouver. Fadin’ By 9 performs rock, folk and bluegrass originals and covers. Misty Mamas is a group of four women who combine Americana and bluegrass styles for traditional favorites and original songs. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 and 2 p.m. Jan. 31.
